Understanding and calculating your marketing ROI

What is marketing ROI?

ROI (Return on Investment) measures the profitability of a marketing campaign. Formula: ROI = ((Revenue generated − Investment) / Investment) × 100. An ROI of 200% means you earned €2 for every €1 invested. A negative ROI indicates a loss. Most digital campaigns target an ROI of 100 to 400%.

ROI vs ROAS: what's the difference?

ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) measures gross revenue generated per euro of advertising — without deducting costs. ROI accounts for total investment. For paid advertising campaigns, ROAS is the standard metric: a 4× ROAS means €4 in revenue for every €1 spent on ads. A ROAS above 2.5 is generally considered profitable.

How to measure the impact of QR codes?

QR codes are particularly trackable via UTM parameters. By adding UTM tags to your QR code destination URLs, you can precisely track conversions in Google Analytics. K-QRCODE provides detailed scan statistics (country, city, device, time) to complete your marketing dashboard.

Break-even point: a key indicator

The break-even point indicates the number of conversions needed to cover your investment. Formula: Break-even = Investment / Average order value. If your average order is €50 and your investment €500, you need 10 conversions to break even. This calculator displays it automatically.

Frequently asked questions

What is the average ROI for a QR code campaign?

Well-tracked QR code campaigns (with UTM) achieve ROIs of 150 to 600% depending on the sector. QR codes on restaurant menus generate an average +12% in average spend. QR codes on physical advertising have a cost-per-scan 3× lower than online advertising for an equivalent local audience.

How do I include QR code creation costs in the calculation?

Your K-QRCODE subscription cost (from €7.99/month) is part of your marketing investment. Include it in the 'Total investment' field to get a realistic ROI. Across a campaign with multiple active QR codes, the cost per scan is generally below €0.05.

My ROI is negative — what should I do?

A negative ROI means the campaign isn't covering its costs. Analyse: (1) the conversion rate of your landing pages, (2) your audience targeting, (3) your average order value (can it increase with an upsell?). A QR code tool with analytics will help you identify friction points in the customer journey.
